Dr. Keith Hullenaar is an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington (UW) SMART Center where he focuses on developing community-engaged approaches to school safety and violence prevention. His research examines links between state-level school resource officer (SRO) policy, school district implementation of SRO programs, and disciplinary outcomes in schools with and without Schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SW-PBIS) systems. Complementing this research, Dr. Hullenaar has helped develop and implement community-engaged, research-based processes that bring together school communities to inclusively problem-solve racial and ethnic disparities in school discipline and policing. By leveraging this work, Dr. Hullenaar strives to promote safe learning environments for all youth, fostering their well-being and success in school and beyond.
