BRISC

Brief Intervention for School Clinicians (BRISC) is a four-session, engagement, assessment, brief intervention, and triage strategy for mental health practitioners working in middle and high schools. BRISC provides a brief, flexible structure that can be used by a range of school-based practitioners, including licensed clinicians, school social workers, school counselors, or other professionals. BRISC uses a stepped care approach that promotes efficiency, allowing practitioners to help more students in need.

What is BRISC?

BRISC is a research-based, engagement, assessment, brief intervention, and triage strategy for mental health practitioners working in middle and high schools. BRISC was developed to provide a flexible and efficient method to aid the many students who are experiencing mental health stressors in a typical school.

BRISC Research

BRISC has been the subject of two research studies funded by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). These studies have found that BRISC: (1) is viewed as feasible and acceptable by school practitioners, (2) promotes greater efficiency in delivering school mental health treatment, and (3) is associated with greater improvement in student mental health than school-based services as usual.
